Last season, our customers paid a median of €122 for six days of intermediate skis and boots in Ischgl, and €33 for a single day.

Ischgl is a busy ski resort in the Austrian Tyrol and a busy place to rent skis on alpy.com: our four partner shops in the village handled more than 4,500 bookings last winter. We used those bookings to work out what ski hire in Ischgl really costs, where to collect your gear and how to keep the bill down. This guide is for anyone renting skis or a snowboard in Ischgl, whether you’re travelling as a family, with friends or on your own, and it covers prices, shop locations, extras and ways to save.

The short version: for a ski resort with an upmarket reputation, ski hire in Ischgl is good value. A week of intermediate skis and boots costs less than the Austrian average, and most village shops offer free rental for children under 10 with a paying adult.

Ski hire Ischgl prices: how much does it cost?

Here’s what customers paid in Ischgl last season, per person, for skis with boots. Our rental grades run from Blue/Bronze (beginner) to Platinum (expert).

Skis and boots

1 day

3 days

6 days

Red/Silver (intermediate)

€33

€95

€122

Black/Gold (good skier)

–

–

€134

Platinum (expert)

–

–

–

Median price paid per person on alpy.com at partner shops in Ischgl last season. Includes the booking service fee, excludes optional protection and helmets. “–” means too few bookings to report a reliable figure.

Two things stand out. First, the week is a much better deal than single days: six one-day rentals of intermediate skis and boots would add up to around €198, against €122 for a six-day package. That’s about 38% less per day. Second, Ischgl comes in below the Austrian median of €133 for the same six-day package.

For the bigger picture across Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland, see our ski hire price guide.

Where are the ski rental shops in Ischgl?

alpy.com has partner shops in Ischgl and the surrounding area. You can browse all of them, compare their benefits, prices and availability, and book online on alpy.com.

Which skis suit the Ischgl ski resort and the Silvretta Arena?

The Silvretta Arena is one of the largest ski areas in Tyrol, with 239 km of slopes by the resort’s own count and around 45 lifts. The terrain runs from roughly 1,400 m in the village up to 2,872 m, and the area crosses the border into Switzerland, so you can ski over to the duty-free village of Samnaun and back in a day. Red runs make up the biggest share, around 140 km, and the longest descents run for about 11 km back down to Ischgl.

That mix suits a confident intermediate on a Red/Silver ski, and it rewards good skiers who step up to Black/Gold. In Ischgl the step up was small: Black/Gold skis and boots cost €134 for six days last season, just €12 more than Red/Silver. If you plan long days on the high red runs and the long descents to the valley, that’s a cheap upgrade. Snow conditions can be firm on a busy piste late in the afternoon, so choose a grade for how you ski then, not on your best powder day. Our guide to what each ski rental grade really means explains the differences in plain terms.

Beginners don’t need to overthink it. Ischgl has around 47 km of blue runs, so there’s plenty of room to build confidence on a soft Blue/Bronze or Red/Silver ski.

How much does snowboard hire cost in Ischgl?

We don’t have enough Ischgl snowboard bookings yet to publish a reliable local median, so we won’t guess one. Snowboards were in about 12% of our Ischgl bookings last winter.

Across Austria last season, a six-day snowboard with boots cost a median of €140, against €133 for intermediate skis and boots. In other words, snowboard rental costs about the same as ski hire, so price shouldn’t decide between the two. Ischgl is well known for winter sports, and the Silvretta Arena also has a snow park if you want to try some freestyle. You can see exact snowboard prices for your dates when you search for Ischgl.

What else adds to the cost?

A few extras come up at the counter. Here’s what they cost and how often our Ischgl customers chose them:

A helmet. The most important piece of safety equipment on the mountain. Around 16% of Ischgl bookings included a rental helmet.

ALPINGUARANTY (breakage and theft waiver): 15% of the rental price, so around €18 on a €122 week. Almost half of our Ischgl customers (46%) added it. It covers skis, boards, boots, helmets and poles.

ALPINSAFETY (personal injury and rescue cover): €1.35 per person per day.

ALPINFLEXI (cancellation protection): 5% of the rental price. Every booking already includes free cancellation until the day before.

How to pay less for ski hire in Ischgl

Look for a free child offer. When we last checked, most partner shops in Ischgl offered free rental for children up to age 10 with paying adults, and the exact conditions differ from shop to shop. Check the benefits listed for each shop when you compare.

Book the whole week. A six-day package cost about 38% less per day than renting day by day. The median rental in Ischgl was five days, and 40% of customers booked six days or more.

Book ahead in peak weeks. The median Ischgl customer booked six days before arrival, and 28% booked within two days. Booking earlier gives you the widest choice of shops, sizes and grades in busy weeks.

Alpy Tip: Ischgl’s après-ski gets going as the lifts close, and plenty of people walk into the village still in their ski boots. Comfortable, well-fitted rental boots matter more here than you’d think. For where to go afterwards, see our guide to Ischgl après-ski bars, clubs and nightlife.

FAQ

How much does ski hire cost in Ischgl?
Last season, intermediate skis and boots in Ischgl cost a median of €33 for one day, €95 for three days and €122 for six days, based on alpy.com bookings. When we last checked, most partner shops in Ischgl offered free rental for children up to age 10 with paying adults, with conditions that differ from shop to shop. Snowboards were in about 12% of our Ischgl bookings.

Is ski hire in Ischgl expensive?
No, not compared with the rest of Austria. Six days of intermediate skis and boots cost a median of €122 in Ischgl, against €133 across all Austrian resorts on alpy.com last season. With free child rental at most village shops, families can pay even less.

If you’re planning a winter holiday here, note that Ischgl has an upmarket reputation, but ski hire is one area where you can save. Rent for the whole week, use a free child offer if you have kids under 10, and consider the small step up to Black/Gold for the long red runs of the Silvretta Arena. Just remember that your ski pass is booked separately, as rental shops only rent equipment.

Ready to sort your ski or snowboard hire in Ischgl? Compare Ischgl partner shops and book your ski or snowboard rental now → Save up to 65% compared to walk-in resort prices, with free cancellation until the day before.
